Our official race predictions contest thread is here: Who are your podium picks for the women’s Ironman World Championships this upcoming Saturday, Oct. 14 in Kona?
Start list is legit intense: three previous champs on the Big Island, two additional 70.3 world champs, almost everyone who was missing last year. I’m not sure there’s been a crazier field.
For the record: I never know what’s going to happen with Daniela and I’m usually wrong. I think Chelsea looks like she’s come around again right on time, just like last year. I think Kat looks strong and has been thinking about this race for awhile, and Anne has been 100% fire this year. Lucy, obviously, had a bit of an injury setback, but seems to have rallied and you can always count on her to turn herself inside out. Laura P. definitely wants to make up for last year’s penalty. Lisa and Fenella seem happy, healthy, fit, and strong. Sarah T. and Sarah C. are both podium-level athletes. And, of course, WHAT IS TAYLOR GOING TO DO?
As always: Pick your podium. Closest to right wins a random prize from me; I have a lot of swag right now in the Kona Feisty/Triathlonish Media House, so it’ll probably be good.
I have literally no idea. But let’s just acknowledge how deep the women’s talent pool is. I mean has there ever been a time with ten racers capable of winning purely on their skill & effort, not by a fluke? THIS might be the Golden Age. (But I’m cheering for Chelsea.)
I am going for an All Mom podium: Chelsea Sodaro, Sarah True, Michelle Vesterby (there are probably other moms on the start list? I just saw Michelle’s kiddos during her ukulele moment on Feisty)
Kat, Lucy, Anne Haug. How can I not pencil in Lucy for the silver? This seems like a very difficult race to predict, lots of talent. Looking forward to a great race!
This is a tough call, but I think Lucy will push it as hard and far as she can, but if Anne is anywhere close, I’ll think she’ll run her down. I think Taylor will lead into T2, but maybe falter in the marathon? I’m sure Daniela will dig deeper than ever, but just isn’t as fleet-footed as she needs to be. I will be rooting for Kat, and hope that she is patient, and takes it all.🙌 🌈
Wish I was in Kona right now! I really want Kat to win but unless she has lots of real estate on Anne I’m not sure she she could hold her off! I hate to vote Daniela and Taylor out but I’m going to. Anne, Kat, Chelsea. Final answer. I just want the race to be exciting! 🎉🎉
Aloha! Lucy Charles is my sentimental favorite. I really really want her to win. I’d like to see Kat and Annie on the podium. I always want to see a great race. I can’t help thinking that there’s somebody unexpected that it’s gonna sneak through for the win. But I really want Lucy to win.
