Haha, I have a friend who says I like to skip the part where everyone has to sit with the problem for a bit and I always want to jump right to solutions. I think some people here, who think it's sooooo great Andrew is leaving, probably needed to sit with the problem a little longer first.
And, honestly, I don't know all the ins & outs of the business, it would be internet hot take naive of me to suggest that I could just come up with what she should do. But I think probably there needs to be a little bit of wooing back triathletes who are unhappy, a little bit of reimagining the business model (does that look like relying more heavily on big title sponsors, does it mean working with the PTO to pump up the pro field to turn certain events into must see/must attend events (I'm thinking what she did with NY Marathon), does it mean losing some of the extra Ironman Group business arms or investing more heavily in certain ones like building community groups), and I think it'll probably a little bit of figuring out what the Ironman event funnel looks like in the future.
Yes, and so bummed. That was / is my favorite venue and it just seems so odd that THAT race was on the chopping block when it's so celebrated by the town and seemed to bring so much money into the ski village and region during their off-season. Hoping it's like an IMCDA, Canada, or St. G. where they bring it back eventually.
Would love to know more as to what happened behind the scenes. They got rid of the race director who seemed beloved and then killed the race the next year?
Oh interesting, didn't know about the RD. It is curious, given how into it the community is there, but there seems to be a shaking out happening across races -- lots of them going away??
Yeah, I asked about that one too specifically when I was asking about the overall calendar, and was told there are some more announcements coming next week, so I'm crossing my fingers that it just is getting moved to early or something. (The town is so so deeply into that one, it would be weird if it disappeared??)
