Thanks! Knowing that, I would probably not pursue trying to qualify for IMWC the years in Nice. I LOVED Nice as a destination for a ton of reasons. But Kona is a course much more suited to my skills. I raced there in 2009, 2012 and 2015. I don’t know if I have it in me to ever qualify again. But if I did, I’d probably try to pursue a Kona qualification. The Nice course is tough for a flat lander like me. The biggest hill I have within about a 40 minute drive takes me 2:30 to climb. 🤣
A question I have: Do you know what the IM corse will be for Nice? I raced 70.3 Worlds when it was there a few years back and was not a fan of the bike course at all. It didn’t help the airline cracked my frame on the way there and I had to race on a broken bike. The mechanics told me “Just don’t use your back brake.” On a Category 1 Tour descent it made for a very nerve-wracking ride fearing if I used my back brake my frame would collapse.
They haven't finalized but they've said it's going to be some version of the current Ironman France course (here: https://www.ironman.com/im-france), which includes the first part of the 70.3 Worlds course + some more climbing and a single bigger loop, but then does, yes, come back down the same sketchy descent the 70.3 Worlds course did.
Something I noticed back in 2019 was the Europeans were MUCH more comfortable with that descent than us Americans, and I wonder if that'll play out now too...?
Very. Well. Said. Please stop whining everybody. I races IM Nice 7-times. It’s an amazing course.
